Rachel has been sleeping well and predictably (knock on something vaguely resembling termite cuisine) over the last few weeks. She seems to certainly prefer her thumb and sleeping on her tummy (now that she can roll over) to sleeping on her back. She also I don’t remember when that last middle-of-the-night feeding “goes away” but right now a feeding between midnight and 3 (and she goes to bed at 9, wakes up between 6 and 7:30) is perfectly managable. It just won’t be long until we have 3 little ones sleeping all the way through the night.

What really freaks me out is that she is not far from sitting up, crawling, eating baby food, and even talking… it is just kindof amazing.

Yeah for sleeping and rolling over. Let’s keep this trend going, kid.

I went to my first programing conference last week and had a great time. It is awesome to geek out with friends who are way smarter than you. Also awesome to see people who are able to devote large amounts of their brain to learning nuances about a language/framework/technology and then graciously passing that information along to you.

Of course, you don’t get it… you just smile and nod and make a note to look at technology X or framework Y and move on. Conferences are like drinking through firehoses.

Programming conferences are definitely like that… the worst thing about it is that some programmers are really *bad* at talking in front of people… The best talks I saw were by Dave Thomas (@pragdave), and Glenn Vanderburg (@gvb) — they had interesting points about what made Ruby great. Another talk by James Edward Grey Jr. (@jeg2) was entertaining and very technically interesting at the same time.

After that, it started to wear off. Lots of people talking a lot about little things… got kinda ‘eh’.

But I have to say, the best part was Thursday, the interactive part. We all got to sit on our laptops and program and DISCOVER about Ruby all day with groups. It is so liberating and awesome to get to program WITH other programmers as opposed to programming around them. Very fun.

Anyway, awesome conference… hope to go back next year and stay longer/mingle more. Needed some recharge time, though, so I went home early on Saturday and shot some hoops on Wii Sports Resort. Oh, I am teh lame. And Wii Sports Resort is awesome
