Last Saturday we had our first “Halloweenie Roast” where I stood outside (in ‘costume’) and passed out candy and hot dogs to everyone who came by. It was a wonderful evening, and I was surprised at how many people said “sure! I’ll take a dog!”
We got to visit with lots of the neighbors again. It has been too long since we’ve gotten together. I have to say that it is wonderful to have neighbors that you spend time with regularly. It is even more fantastic that our kids have learned to love our neighbors as well. Timothy, we can tell, already has a heart for people–it is so tender and amazing to watch. Bethany is so cute she sucks you in and Rachel just has the best smile, so they are definitely a help when it comes to interacting with new people.
I hope that more of our block will get to know one another and get to the point where we can regularly hang out–even weekly… Man wouldn’t that be cool?
I remember growing up and seeing the “bad” side of Halloween, and we as a family chose not to participate. It’s so nice to see the good side where people get to grow closer, open up their doors, and be neighbors.
Here’s to hoping for a second annual “Halloweenie Roast” in 2010.
