“Love is that condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own.” -Robert Heinlein

Wow… I can’t imagine a more positive-sounding and frankly terrible definition of love. That would make for a pretty miserable life. I’m not saying that you can’t be happy that someone you love is happy, but you can love someone and not have their emotions entirely determine yours. By this definition, you can’t love someone that can’t be happy, because the goal of love is to make you feel happy. Love is so much bigger than that and so much more powerful.
